About the school
The 1st Alpine School on Magnetics (AlpMag 2027) brings together around 50 PhD students and early-career researchers for an intensive week of lectures, hands-on tutorials, and collaborative learning. While this inaugural edition focuses on computational magnetism - from micromagnetic simulations and atomistic spin dynamics to density functional theory and machine learning - it also explores broader trends shaping magnetic research today. Set in the alpine surroundings of St. Christoph am Arlberg, the school pairs a rigorous scientific program with an informal mountain atmosphere that sparks networking, exchange, and lasting collaborations across Europe.

Organizers
This inaugural edition of the Alpine School on Magnetics is hosted in Austria by the University of Vienna, and brought to life by three researchers from the Viennese magnetism community: Dieter Suess and Claas Abert of the University of Vienna, together with Amalio Fernández-Pacheco of TU Wien. Conceived as an annual event, the school will rotate in the coming years among Austria, Italy, France, and Switzerland - each edition organized by a leading group in the host country. Through this rotation, the organizers aim to weave a lasting, interconnected European network of young magnetism researchers.
